Man Arrested in Western Region for Illegal Possession of Firearm

Police in Ghana’s Western Region have arrested a man for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, in what authorities say is part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal weapons across the country.

The suspect, identified as Yahaya Seidu, was apprehended in the Aponteng Krom area by officers from the Western Central Regional Police Command.

According to a statement posted on the Ghana Police Service’s official Facebook page, Seidu was found carrying a locally manufactured pistol and two live cartridges. When questioned, he was unable to provide a lawful reason for being in possession of the weapon.

The police have confirmed that Seidu is currently in custody and assisting with investigations. He is expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days.

Illegal firearms remain a growing concern in many parts of Ghana, with local authorities stepping up surveillance and enforcement to stem the tide of gun-related crimes. Community members in the area say they are hopeful the arrest sends a clear message.

The police have encouraged the public to continue providing information on suspicious activity, stressing that community vigilance plays a vital role in maintaining security.
