CHURCHES TAKE ON SFO ? OVER WHY FUNDS CANNOT BE REPATRIATED
The Ghana Pentecostal Council (GPC) has called on the Serious Fraud Office (SFO), to explain in clear terms why it says churches cannot send monies, tithes and offerings outside Ghana.
The GPC membership, according to its Acting General Secretary Nana Anyani Buadum is confused about the SFO position on the issue as articulated by its Acting Executive Director, Mr Theophilus Cudjoe in the ?Times? of Wednesday June 30 2004.
Nana Anyani Buadum in an interview with EVENING NEWS , explained that it was vague for the executive Director to simply say that churches were, registered non-profit charitable organisations under the laws of Ghana and were therefore supposed to make profits that would need to be transferred abroad to the principals sister organisation or affiliates.
The GPC Acting General Secretary therefore called on the SFO to explain its position on the remittances of funds to churches in and outside the country, particularly by what criteria it defines profit in terms of monies transferred to branches outside the nation.
The SFO?s intervention came in the wake of recent revelation of monies transferred to the Nigeria headquarters of the Winners? Chapel from its Accra branch through unorthodox means.
