Homowo celebration ends in September – Council

Accra, June 18 GNA – The Ga Traditional Council (GTC) said on Friday this year’s Homowo Festival celebration, which started in May, will end in September.

A statement signed by the Nii Adote Obour II, Acting President of GTC said a Planning Committee for the 2004 Homowo Festival had been empowered to ensure the smooth planning of activities related to the festival and urged the public, donors and other corporate bodies to deal with the planning committee only.

The statement said this year’s festival, which, is being planned in collaboration with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), would embrace the larger Ghanaian public as well as the international community.

It also expressed appreciation to individuals, who contributed in diverse ways to ensure the peaceful commemoration of the ” ODADAO” traditional rites, which ended on June 3, 2004.

The statement however, stated that the Traditional council would not tolerate the use of political colours and paraphernalia or any conduct that could mar the unity and sacredness that the traditions and customs demand during the celebration.
