Fund to support needy students launched in Asuogyaman district

Akosombo, June 2, GNA – Ghana’s Consul-General in Australia, Mr Kofi Osei Ameyaw, has set up “The Kofi Osei Foundation”, to annually sponsor five brilliant but needy students of the Akwamuman Secondary School at Akosombo.

Mr Ameyaw announced this at the 35th Anniversary Speech and Prize-Giving Day of the School at Akosombo, which also marked the send-off for Mrs Elizabeth Ankrah, the out-going Headmistress of the School.

The Consul-General, who was an old student of the school, donated 10 million cedis towards the improvement of the school’s facilities. The MP for Asougyaman, Mr Emmanuel Dwamena Bekoe, advised the students to stick to their books in order to perform well in their final examinations instead of wasting their time browsing the Internet for pornographic materials.

He promised to donate 100 bags of cement to the first consignment he had presented to the school from his MPs Common Fund towards the infrastructure development of the school.

Earlier in his speech, the Senior Prefect, Master Francis Modwehe, appealed to non-governmental organisations and individuals to donate library books to add to the existing stock to enhance teaching and learning.

He regretted that the inadequate library facility of the school was a contributory factor to the low academic performance of the students. June 2, 04
