Tema, May 23, GNA – The Circuit court “A” at Tema granted 200 million cedis bail to an electrical contractor of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) who is alleged to have stolen ECG poles and cables for extension of electricity to a house at community 20.
Francis Asempah pleaded not guilty and will reappear on June 17 2004. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Christopher Quaicoe told the court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that on March 17, 2004 the ECG formed a task force to track down people involved in illegal electric connections.
He said at community 20, the task force detected that two poles and wiring systems to three detached storey building houses owned by Altemate Shelter Company at Baatsona were not authorised by ECG. Chief Insp Quaicoe said the task force managed to arrest the accused and handed him over to the Tema Regional Police, where he (accused) confessed that he erected the poles and made the wiring to the houses. The prosecutor said the accused during interrogation could not show source of supply of the two poles which had ECG marks and the quantity of cable, valued at 70.5 million cedis adding that the items were all retrieved.
