Accra, May 13, GNA – The National Executive Council (NEC), the highest decision body of the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), has resolved to advise itself as to what steps it should take to ensure that their outstanding grievances were addressed.
In a resolution released in Accra on Thursday, the NEC said: “If by the close of work on Monday, May 24, 2004 the grievances pending before Management are not resolved, the Union will advise itself.”
The Resolution jointly signed by Mr Daniel Ayim Antwi, General Secretary and Madam Magaret Martey, Second National Vice-Chairperson of the Union, and made available to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday, said the NEC took into consideration the untold hardship that members of the Union were passing through because of the delay in resolving the grievances.
The grievances include the review of conditions of service for the Non-Teaching Staff of the Ghana Education Service (GES); the payment of outstanding salary due to distortions and disparities; responsibility allowance and refund of medical expenses.
When the GNA asked Mr Antwi whether the Union would embark on industrial action, he said: “It would depend upon how the issue would be handled. We shall determine how to cross the river when we get there.”
