Chiefs, Queenmothers urged to get involved in education on NHIS

Saltpong (C/R) April 17, GNA – The Chief of Saltpong Lower Town (Nankesedo), Nana Baah VII has urged chiefs, queenmothers and heads of clans to get involved in the education on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to make it a success.

Nana Baah, who is the Nimfahene of the Nkusukum Traditional Area, said the NHIS was the best method of accessing healthcare and said “it will be absurd and a failure on our part as chiefs if we shall wait and expect people from outside to come and educate our people on what is good for them.”

“Since we swore the oath to promote the welfare of our people at all times, we should be in the vanguard of government policies and programmes meant to enhance the well being of the people,” he said. He made the admonishing at a meeting of chiefs, queenmothers and elders of Saltpong Nankesedo to discuss development programmes of the town.

Nana Baah expressed concern about the waning of the communal spirit among the people and urged the chiefs to map out strategies to rekindle the spirit in the town.

He said they should be able to finish with the construction of a day-care centre complex, which Nana Kwamina, Nkosohene, resident in Britain, was financing to enable it to be commissioned during the celebration of the Ayerye festival.

Nana Baah appealed to non-resident citizens of the town to contribute to the development programmes they had initiated.

“We need your advice, financial and material support to develop the town,” he appealed.
