Fiema chief forms task force to check truancy among schoolchildren

Fiema (B/A), March 30, GNA – Nana Amponsah Boateng 11, chief of Fiema in the Nkoranza District of Brong Ahafo has formed a task force to check truancy among schoolchildren. Members of the force would visit households during school hours to find out what problems confront children of school-going age who would be at home. They would also check the attendance of schoolchildren at video and concert shows, dances and funeral wake keepings.

Nana Amponsah told the Ghana News Agency that his aim of forming the force was to ensure that all parents in the area exercised their responsibilities towards the education of their children. He deplored the attitude of some parents who allowed their children to roam the streets and indulge in all kinds of social vices and unproductive activities.

The chief added that he would form a committee that would deal with issues confronting students, teachers and parents and would also ensure that all children of school-going age were enrolled in schools. “Parents will be made to appreciate the essence of education so that their children don’t grow to become liabilities as that would greatly affect the development of the community,” he said.

Nana Amponsah said the community had plans to give awards to hardworking teachers at the end of every academic year and parents found to be irresponsible would be reprimanded at a public forum. He called for a cordial relationship between parents and teachers so as to promote discipline among schoolchildren and improve the standard of education.
