Chieftaincy clash looms in Pra-Ewusi

Violence looms at Pra-Ewusi in the Central Region following a threat by four royal gates to clash with a fifth gate which has planned to install a chief in the town.

The four royal gates indicate that they have picked information that a rival gate will enthrone a new chief this Easter.

There are five gates in the town and chieftaincy is supposed to rotate among the five, but four aggrieved houses have accused one of the royal gates of halting the rotation.

The fifth gate has continued to install a new chief anytime a substantive chief dies and the four have vowed to resist any attempt by the fifth gate to enstool another chief as it has monopolised installation of chiefs.

“We are going to take our destiny into our own hands bearing the consequences; we will return fire for fire, boot for boot,” spokesperson for the four gates, Ebusuapanyin Kwesi Boateng, said in a press conference on Monday, April 10.

“We will handle each and every one as and when they come.”

He said they trusted the chiefs of Anomabu to settle the issues but to no avail. Additionally, they have petitioned the Regional House of Chiefs but they have taken no action since they reported the matter in 2015.

He said the gate in question continues to harass indigenes and members of the other four gates, “even attacking and trying to kidnap people”.

According to him, one case of kidnapping has been reported to the police but “no action has been taken by the police”.
