Bolgatanga Traditional Council Meets Over Land Litigation.

Bolgatanga, March 9, GNA – The Paramount Chief of the Bolgatanga Traditional Area, Naba Martin Abilba, III has cautioned chiefs in the area to desist from getting rich through land litigations. He said it is against the Frafra ancestral customs to dispute over land, adding, “it is better to have peace in poverty than wealth in riot.”

Naba Abilba said this when he addressed a meeting of the Bolgatanga Traditional Council and all Sub-Chiefs in the area, to throw more light on a petition sent by the chiefs to the Regional Lands Commission on abnormal land development issues.

In the petition dated January 7 this year, the chiefs observed with concern the current trend of the sale of land in the Upper East Region, particularly in the Bolgatanga traditional area, resulting in numerous land cases in the courts and landlessness to some families. The petition blamed the Lands Commission for causing problems between chiefs and Tindanbas (Land Owners) and urged the Commission to define their roles.

Naba Abilba appealed to the chiefs to exercise restraint, while the authorities at the Lands Commission resolve the issue. He advised the chiefs to ensure that all their people register during the forthcoming voter registration exercise, saying that if one does not register one cannot vote when the time comes.
