Assembly fights assembly member over dilapidated classrooms

The Asunafo South District Assembly has stated that the Assembly Member for Kukuom Abromamu, Ing Kobby Amoa-Mensah, has no power to close down three dilapidated classrooms at the Kukuom Methodist Primary School.

In a letter signed by the District Coordinating Director for the Asunafo South District, John Jojo Amanah, and cited by The Finder, it stated that what the Assembly Member did was criminal.

The letter read: “Please with reference to your letter dated 9th March, 2017 on the above stated subject, I wish to bring to your attention that the closure of a school is beyond your jurisdiction. As such any attempt to exercise that authority would be considered a criminal offense for which you will be held liable accordingly”.

Last week, the Assembly Member for the Kukuom Abromama, Ing Kobby Amoa-Mensah, closed down three classrooms at the Kukuom Methodist Primary due to its dilapidated state and the fear that it would collapse on the pupils.

Ing Amoa- Mensah in his reaction to the letter from the Assembly said, “The letter is a joke, I was elected to help the people so I won’t sit down for the building to collapse on the pupils. I am a Civil Engineer by profession so what I did was from the professional point of view”.

Efforts to get the Asunafo South District Coordinating Director, Mr Amanah, for further clarification of the matter was not successful as his phone was off at the time of filing this report.
