Upgrading of four secondary schools in the Volta on course

Ho, Feb. 9, GNA- Upgrading of infrastructure and facilities at Adidome, Kete-Krachi, Kadjebi and Jasikan Senior Secondary Schools (SSS), estimated at 32 billion cedis in the Volta Region are on course as part of government’s policy to provide a model Senior Secondary School in each district.

Mr Kwasi Owusu-Yeboa, Volta Regional Minister announced this at the inauguration of the Dora Memorial SSS in Ho on Saturday.

Facilities to be provided include school blocks, teachers flats and bungalows, students hostels, lecture theatres, computer laboratories and water and sanitation facilities.

Mr Owusu-Yeboa said scholarships and “material awards” for professional and academic upgrading and improved service conditions would be available to staff of the schools under an incentive package.

Mr Owusu-Yeboa said the expectation was that the provision of such facilities and conditions would ensure quality education and attainment of high academic standards.

He said four-six-classroom blocks are also being constructed in each of the 12 districts in the region under another special programme by government.

The Regional Minister said government recognised private participation in education delivery and would forge partnership with private school operators who would be expected to operate within laid down guidelines.
