Ghana Health Service to mark anniversary

Kadjebi, Jan 23, GNA – Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, on Thursday announced that the service would mark its one-year anniversary in on 4 February to show case some of its products and facilities to the public.

He said some of the highlights of the month-long celebration would include open days, radio and television talk shows, public education on pertinent health issues, especially the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), awards to hardworking staff and promotion of research findings. Prof. Akosa was addressing health workers on the second day of his weeklong tour as part of staff durbars in the northern sector of the Volta Region, at Kadjebi.

He said the celebration was aimed at bridging the gap between stakeholders and partners especially the community and health service providers.

Prof. Akosa urged all District Directors of GHS to educate the people that health facilities partly belonged to them and not to government alone. He said the celebration could inspire public-spirited individuals and organisations to contribute to improvement of health facilities to complement government’s efforts. Some members of staff, during an open forum asked the authorities to solve the problems of delay in promotions, the lack of accommodation and means of transport, risk on the job, poor service conditions and additional duty hour allowance.
