Community Surveillance Volunteers attend in-service training

Tepa (Ash), Dec. 29, GNA- The Public Health Unit of the Ahafo Ano North District Health Management Team (DHMT) has organised a one-day in-service training for 78 Community Surveillance Volunteers at Tepa. The volunteers, drawn from the various communities, updated their knowledge in reporting communicable diseases and recording of births and maternal deaths in their communities.

They were also taught how to sensitise pregnant women to attend anti-natal clinics and nursing mothers to attend child-welfare clinics. Speaking at the function, Mrs Elizabeth Danso Adentwi, the District Director of Health Services, cautioned the volunteers not to pose as health personnel and administer drugs and treatment in their communities.

She told them to rather stick to their assigned roles and report the outbreak of communicable diseases to the nearest clinics and hospital for prompt action.

Mrs Adentwi commended the volunteers for the effective role they played in the recent polio immunisation exercise which enabled the district to chalk success.
