Vice President to address high-level conference in Turkey

The Vice President, Mr K. B. Amissah-Arthur, has arrived in Antalya, Turkey for the United Nations High-Level Midterm Review of the Istanbul Programme of Action (IPoA) for Least Developed Countries (LDCs).

The review conference, which is open to all United Nations member countries, comes off from 27th – 29th May, 2016. Mr Amissah-Arthur is expected to address the plenary session as well as chair a roundtable discussion on “Human and Social Development, and Good Governance at All Levels”.

The objective of the High-Level Roundtable is to bring together global leaders to address LDCs’ challenges, identify concrete suggestions and secure firm commitments to achieve the IPoA’s priority areas on human and social development, and good governance at all levels.

This event will provide a platform to make success visible, showcase best practices and identify the key principles and variables for successful acceleration of human and social development, and good governance.

The Vice President is representing President John Dramani Mahama who was specially invited by the Government of Turkey.

President Mahama and the Prime Minister of Norway, Ms Ema Solberg, are co-Chairs of a group of 16 eminent Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Advocates appointed by the United Nations Secretary-General to generate momentum and commitment to achieve the SDGs by 2030.
