Blay: ‘NPP not broke, but not very wealthy’

The acting chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has indicated that the party does not lack funds, but still needed enough money to match up to the governing National Democratic Congress’ deep pockets.

As part of campaign activities in the run-up to the November 7 polls, the party launched a fundraising programme to support the presidential bid of Nana Akufo-Addo on Wednesday 13 April 2016.

Responding to a direct question by Class News’ Paa Kwesi Parker-Wilson about whether the party was broke, Mr Blay said: “…We are not in crises but definitely we will need more funds and resources to undertake certain projects. This is an election year and we are not very wealthy”.

“Mind you, we are dealing with an incumbent government which has limitless resources and access to money and we need to have some resources ourselves,” he further noted.

Mr Blay said the launch of the platform for the fundraising has the approval of the National Executive Committee (NEC). He noted that an “earlier fundraising programme was organised by some individuals without clearance from the NEC”.
