Dagbon regent warns Journalists

The Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya Naa Abdulai Andani Yakubu has warned journalists in the country particularly those in the Northern Region to be careful about the way they report on issues pertaining to Dagbon.

At a brief interaction with some journalists at the Northern Regional Coordinating Council in Tamale before proceeding to Accra, the Kampakuya Naa urged journalists to do due diligence by cross-checking their facts on the ground before informing the public because of the sensitive nature of issues in Dagbon particularly chieftaincy-related litigation.

Though he praised the press, the traditional leader emphasized that reporters should not rely on hearsay in discharging their duties.

“The issue of Dagbon Chieftaincy is very sensitive, so we plead that you report what you have seen; don’t report things you hear from outside,” the Kampakuya Naa cautioned.

Such reportage the Kampakuya Naa noted does not help in the development of Dagbon as they have the potency denting the image of Dagbon and the Northern Region as a whole.

The Kampakuya Naa who is also the acting president of the Dagbon Traditional Council pleaded with the people in the Northern Region to give their maximum support to the new regional minister, Mr. Abdallah Abubakar to discharge his duties effectively.

According to the Dagbon Regent, the Northern Region is large and that Mr. Abubakar assumed office in an election year, hence the need for everyone to support him to administer the region effectively.
