Electoral Commission useless if… – Lecturer

A Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Asare Bossman, has emphatically said that the EC is of no use if they cannot carry out their own internal investigations on members of its own steering committee.

According to him, the EC has the necessary apparatus that would enable them get neutral independent minded persons on board, who would not influence the steering committee to act in a certain way.

He indicated that wars usually pop up in nations mostly based on the elections conducted, just the same way every Electoral Commission is most respected in every country since they can determine the state of a country according to how they address issues at hand.

He stressed citizens would have hope in the EC, by way of being neutral and not belonging to any political party as a referee does his job.

To him, if the EC wants to include politicians in its decision making, it should just make sure it involves all the various political parties.

“The Electoral Commission is so central and very important . .. so if the EC says it’s setting up a committee and they can’t just investigate or don’t have the capacity to check background of persons involved then they(EC) are of no use,” he told Peace FM News in an interview in the 6pm news bulletin, Thursday.
