Kumasi Walks for Children with Cancer

Hundreds of residents including students of various institutions within the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region on Saturday, walked to create awareness of cancer and as well raise funds for cancer patients in the country.

The walk organized by the Paediatric Oncology Unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) saw patrons walk a 17-kilometre distance.

Head of the Unit Dr. Mrs. Vivian Paintsil disclosed that childhood cancer treatment is not covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and appealed to authorities and government to consider rolling it on the NHIA treatment list.

The event was also in commemoration of the International Childhood Cancer Day which is observed February 15 annually.
