Dr Nkrumah’s cousin laid to rest

Burial took place over the weekend at Half-Assini public cemetery in Western Region of the late Madam Mary Tawiah Numuah, cousin of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the First President.

She was a keen member of Jomoro Constituency Convention People’s Party (CPP).

Madam Tawiah Numuah, 85 left behind four children, 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was born on January 7, 1930 at Nkroful in Ellembelle District to the family of Mr Nyameke Nuomah and Madam Miezah Kuah, both of Nkroful and Asanta of blessed memory.

Late Numuah Tawiah from Nkroful visited her maternal Uncle Gorkeh Nkrumah, a Goldsmith, father of late President Nkrumah, at Half-Assini in Jomoro District when she met and eventually married Mr John Armah, a transport owner at Half-Assini popularly known as “Fear Woman” also of blessed memory.

Tributes were read from the family, children, grandchildren, mother and son In-laws, Ewulley Armah and Tawiah families and Catholic Women Association, which she was a member.

Madam Numuah Tawiah, who was a devout Catholic, had her burial preceeded with mass at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, Half-Assini.

The funeral was attended by some CPP members in the area dressed in their party paraphernalia.

Among dignitaries who attended the funeral were Mr George William Somiah, Jomoro District Chief Executive, Mrs Joyce Buah, wife of Mr Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, Ellembelle Member of Parliament and Energy Minister, Nana Blay Miezah, First Jomoro Constituency Vice Chairman of CPP, and Ms Agnes Gyabaah, Western Regional Deputy Women Organiser.

Samiah Yaba Nkrumah, CPP aspiring presidential candidate, daughter of Dr Nkrumah and Nana Ayebie Amihere VI, Chief of Half-Assini were represented at the funeral by high powered delegations.
