NDC ‘orders’ Mahama to name running mate

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has advised President John Mahama to, as a matter of urgency, initiate the processes leading to the selection of his running mate for the 2016 elections.

Addressing a press conference Tuesday, General Secretary for the party Johnson Asiedu Nketia said the party wants Mahama to name his running mate early to enable the party prepare adequately for next year’s polls.

“The party will strongly advise his Excellency the president to trigger the process of making our running mate known so that we can prepare ourselves for the elections in 2016”.

Political watchers believe his vice president Kwesi Amissah-Arthur is an automatic choice, having sent him to pick his nomination forms.

Speaking on the issue in October this year, Mahama said he cannot reveal his running mate when he is not yet a candidate.

Asiedu Nketia popularly known as General Mosquito added that the party is poised to win the 2016 general elections after the successful primaries.

Mahama received an overwhelming 95% endorsement, having polled 1,199,118 ‘Yes’ votes representing 95.10% in the party’s primaries over the weekend.
