Lions Club International, a humanitarian organization, has pledged to continue to give more support to the deprived and the socially-disadvantaged people in society.
Ms. Michaela Kusi, Chairperson of the Club’s Zone 344 – Region 34, said the goal was to positively affect the lives of about 100 million people globally by year 2017.
That would be a most powerful tribute and the high point of the centenary celebration of the world body, which has been at the forefront of humanitarian service for more than 100 years.
The worldwide event is only two years away.
She was addressing a district advisory meeting of the Zone in Kumasi on the theme “Bringing dignity to others through humanitarian service”.
The organization had been spearheading the provision of badly-needed social amenities and services including the sinking of boreholes and free health screening to people, particularly in rural communities.
The meeting received reports on progress of work on two projects it was undertaking in the Ashanti Region.
These were the installation of overhead water reservoirs at the Juaso Government Hospital and the Jamasi School for the Deaf, to help boost water supply to these institutions.
Ms. Kusi said nothing could be more satisfying than to be part of the noble cause of helping to make things better for the poor, the disabled and the hungry.
