THE OBO-KWAHU Association of Great Britain and Ireland, a benevolent society of Obo citizens have donated a number of educational items and bus stop canopies to schools and the people of Obo.
The items which included six computers, 30 footballs, a silver trophy to be competed for by basic schools in the town, assorted books of various subjects for the Kwahu Ridge Secondary Technical (KRISTECH) and canopies to be sited at various bus stops in the town, valued over ?25 million.
Presenting the items, the deputy chairman of the association, Mr. Kwabena Ampadu, who is also the director of an NGO, Horizon 2000 in both Ghana and Great Britan said, education is very important to every country for its development and therefore decided to donate the items to enhance development and education in the area.
He said the association donated a number of books to primary schools in the area and are sponsoring two Obo students at the St. Peter’s Secondary School at Nkwatia-Kwahu.
He also pledged the association’s intention to revamp the Obo clinic to enable it serve the people efficiently.
Receiving the items on behalf of the people, the Obo Ankobeahene, Nana Ntori Denkyira II, who represented the Obohene, commended the group for their desire to enhance education in the area and urged others to emulate them.
The headmaster of Kwahu Ridge Secondary School, Mr. George K. Agyarey who represented the schools thanked the group and pledged that the items would be put to good use to enable it serve its intended purposes.
He appealed to the association and other groups and individuals to assist the secondary schools to rehabilitate its girls dormitory and the science block which are in a deplorable state and pose danger to both students and teachers.
Present at the function were the assemblyman for Obo, Mr. Omane Wadie, some chiefs, teachers and school children.
