First Lady donates medical equipment to Hospital

Mrs Lordina Mahama, the First Lady, has donated medical equipment to the Asante Mampong District Hospital.

The cost of the equipment was not immediately known, but they included packed surgery sets, breathing tubes, anaesthetic accessories, wheel chairs, beds, mattresses, and nurses cabinets, among others.

Speaking at the ceremony, the First Lady said, her second coming to Asante Mampong within one month was an indication that the health of the people in the area was dear to her heart.

She said for effective health delivery to take place, three most important factors to be considered were affordable and accessible health care, hospital facility and equipment, and highly qualified and trained personnel to run the facility.

She explained that the government had invested heavily in all the three areas to meet the general health expectation of the people.

Despite this, the First Lady regretted that many small clinics in vulnerable communities and other hospitals lacked medical equipment and supplies, hence the Lordina Foundation’s presence in Mampong, to donate medical equipment to the hospital.

She said the Lordina Foundation in collaboration with Africa First Ladies, which she is the current President, was doing everything possible to revert the trend of HIV and AIDS, with the elimination of mother-to-child transmission.

Nana Agyakoma Dufie, the Queenmother of the Mampong Traditional Area, who received the equipment on behalf of the hospital, thanked the First Lady for her kind gesture.

She said Mampong was second to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, and appealed to the Ministry of Health to post a gynaecologist and other medical specialists to the hospital.
