Mahama likely to maintain Amissah Arthur as running mate

Deep throat sources at the presidency have given hints that President John Dramani Mahama is most likely to maintain Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur as his running mate for the 2016 polls.

This comes barely a few days after the President sent the Vice President to pick up nomination forms on his behalf for the presidential primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) slated for November 7.

The sources say even though it was not out of the ordinary for the president to instruct his Vice to carry out a duty on his behalf, the decision to send him to pick up forms carry a deeper message.

When he picked up the forms, the General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, said Mr. Amissah-Arthur’s decision to pick the forms on behalf of the president naturally confirmed his confidence and trust in the competence of the president.

Political analysts say the General Secretary’s assertion is a subtle endorsement of the candidature of the two for the 2016 polls.

There are some opinions also suggesting that the NDC may not want Amissah-Arthur, former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, as the running mate to President Mahama for the second time.

The man, who is seen by many as a technocrat rather than a typical politician, has often been described as a bad match for President Mahama.

His critics have also said he is too slow for the job, but those who support his candidature say “he is slow but sure” and works harder regardless of his posture.
