2 paddies break curfew to steal

Two friends have been arrested by the Bunkpurugu Police in the Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo District of the Northern region for breaking curfew to steal items valued at GHc7,000 in an electrical store.

Laari Magla, a 25-year-old tailor and Laari Magigbe, a 29-year-old painter, reportedly monitored the victim while he was closing his shop just few minutes to curfew.

Upon realizing the complainant had left for home, the two friends took advantage of his absence and broke into the shop.

They stole DVD players, satellite decoders, 22-inch plasma TV, a standing fan, portable ghetto blasters, Multi-tv dishes, assorted mobile phones and airtime cards, all valued at GHc7,000.

The complainant, who realized that his items had been stolen the following morning, lodged an official complaint with the police.

In the course of investigation, police had information that Laari Magla was fixing a Multi-TV satellite dish suspected to have been stolen at a location.

Armed with the information, the police stormed the said location and met the accused person, who could not tell them where he got the satellite dish from.

A number of items including a decoder, two TV sets and some airtime cards believed to be part of the stolen items were discovered in his room upon a search.

The said items were immediately identified by the complainant who was called to the scene.

The accused person disclosed that Laari Magigbe brought the items to him for safekeeping which subsequently led to his arrest.

They admitted stealing the items from the complainant’s shop during curfew hours.

They were subsequently arraigned before a Nalerigu Magistrate Court and charged with breach of curfew contrary to section 4 (5) of Act 491/91 of the Public Order Act, conspiracy to commit crime contrary to 23 (1) of Act 29/60 and causing unlawful damage contrary to Section 172 of Act 29/60 of the criminal code.

They were remanded into prison custody by the court, presided over by Robert Agbleze to reappear on September 17, 2015.
