Stop bad practices and let schools stay focused – Rector

Professor Nicholas Nsowah-Nuamah, Rector, Kumasi Polytechnic, has expressed concern about growing anonymous letter writing and attempts at creating disaffection for the management and said these must end.

Such bad practices were poisonous and undermined the goal of making the institution, the leading technical university.

He was speaking during an orientation workshop for newly-appointed Deans and Heads of Department for Institutes and Centres of the Polytechnic.

Prof Nsowah-Nuamah reminded everybody to conform to best practices and acceptable conduct to sustain the school on the path of progress.

He asked the Deans and Department Heads, together with other senior members to provide the right leadership for its smooth take-off as a technical university, beginning, next year.

Dr. Paul Effah, former Executive Secretary of the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE), urged the heads to establish effective communication channels with their subordinates.

He noted that as heads they were no longer specialists in their fields, but generalists and must therefore place the interest of the institution above personal consideration.

They should also be humble enough not only to accept contrary views in the discharge of their duties but to recognize the complementary skills and abilities of subordinates.

He said that would help them to build consensus, trust and remove suspicion among members of their various departments.
