Gender Ministry donates to flood victims

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection in partnership with DIRECTAID-Ghana, has donated relief items to some families who were badly affected by the June 3 floods in the Osu Korle-Clottey Constituency.

The items included 300 bags of rice, 300 mattresses, 300 blankets, 100 school bags, cartons of cooking oil and tomato paste.

Nana Oye Lithur, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, who made the presentation, said the Ministry had pledged an emergency LEAP package for the 13,000 affected people nationwide, while Gh?100.00 would be given per household to beneficiaries every month for three months.

She stated that the initiative was targeting three main categories of victims, comprising; ‘households who lost their businesses in the floods and fire; households who lost personal effects in their homes; and households who lost a bread winner’.

The Country Director for DIRECTAID-Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Mr Ahmed S.A Omar, expressed condolences on behalf of the Government and the people of Kuwait to the flood victims.
