I am disappointed Short, Akwetey et al missed out on EC job – Baah

Political Scientist Dr. Amoako Baah says he is disappointed President Mahama bypassed experienced and credible persons in consideration of the Electoral Commission job.

According to the Head of the Political Science Department at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology(KNUST), the credibility of the EC has sunk too low it required somebody with exceptional qualities to clean up the mess.

He told Kwaku Owusu Adjei Friday on Si Me So on Kasapa 102.3 FM he was surprised names like Emile Short and Bright Akwettey were not considered.

“Maybe if Afari Gyan’s performance is what should be used as a standard for her, then she can do the job- We need new ways of doing things.”

President John Dramani Mahama has, in accordance with Article 70(2) of the 1992 Constitution, appointed Mrs. Charlotte Osei as Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana.

A statement signed by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah said Mrs. Osei who replaces Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan was until her appointment the Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education.

Mrs. Osei, a lawyer with considerable experience in public service management, institutional reform also has expertise in corporate law, banking, insurance, project financing and public-private partnerships.
