I will not resign for contesting NPP primaries – GJA prez

The Ashanti regional president of the Ghana Journalists Association, Listowel Bukarson has rubbished calls for him to resign from his position for standing as a parliamentary aspirant on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Burkason, he has not breached any constitutional declarations and would not resign.

His comments come on the back of an order given by the national president of the Ghana Journalists Association, Affail Monney who said, Mr. Burkason seizes to be the president of the Ashanti regional branch of the association.

Mr. Burkason contested in the June 13 parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party in the Builsa North constituency but lost.

Mr. Monney said “He cannot do politics while occupying the position as the regional chairman of the Ghana Journalist Association. Burkason is no more the regional chairman of the GJA in the Ashanti Region and the mantle falls on the Vice Chairman to act as chairperson till fresh elections are held held in the Ashanti Region for his replacement.”

Reacting to those comments the Ashanti regional president said “It’s a far cry… I do not know whether Mr. Monney spoke in his capacity as GJA president or in his personal capacity but I think I have not done any wrong in my decision to contest a political position.”
