Don’t blame NADMO, blame government – Dr. Norman

Dr. Ishmael Norman, Director of the Center for Disaster Resilience and Leadership Studies has posited that the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) should not be blamed for the poor management of last Wednesday’s disaster in Accra.

“I will not blame NADMO, as the disaster management sector in Ghana has not been taken seriously by all governments…” he said in an interview with Joy FM.

He explained that the modalities on the ground stifle the operations of the sector. He urged government to pay attention to the sector to ensure the department runs efficiently.

Dr. Norman cited the unplanned nature of settlements across the country as a major setback in preparing development plans due to lack of accurate statistics and information on the population living in various clusters in the country.

He cautioned that similar or worst disasters could occur in the future hence appropriate measures be put in place to curb such eventuality.

He also advised the public to desist from giving incidents a political dimension as any occurrence affects the public regardless of the party one is affiliated to.
