The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) says it conducts safety audits and inspections of fuel stations all over the country.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Authority, “the NPA’s inspection audits are monthly and quarterly. We also do unannounced visits and visits occasioned by consumer complaints.”
Mr. Kasambata stated that the NPA conducts at least two or three visits yearly to each of the over 3000 filling stations dotted across the country.
He reminded the public that, the decision by the NPA to suspend the issuance of licenses to any new fillings stations in May 2015 was because the NPA is in the process of auditing the permits issued to various petroleum service providers (PSPs) to construct petroleum product retail outlets and LPG refilling plants.
He was speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show.
Meanwhile, the Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors has asked government to conduct a safety and storage facility integrity audit of all fuels stations in the country.
