2 Grabbed for kidnapping

Two young women have been arrested by the Abotoase Police Command in the Volta Region for allegedly kidnapping a three-year-old girl.

The suspects, Mercy Elewu, 22, and Esinam Afi Ahorgba, 23, were said to have escaped with the girl (name withheld) from Akatsi South where she lived with her father.

They were therefore handed over to the Akatsi Police Command after their arrest. Akatsi South Police Commander, Superintendent Fiakpi, who confirmed the arrests to DAILY GUIDE, said the two ladies were residents of Abotoase.

According to him, on Saturday, May 31, 2015, father of the victim, Stephen Gokah took the suspects to his residence at Akatsi South and later left the girl in their company as he went to town to run some errands.

He said Mr. Gokah saw neither his daughter nor the suspects upon returning to his house.

Superintendent Fiakpi noted that the father of the girl, who was the boyfriend of one of the suspects – Esinam Afi Ahorgba- lodged a complaint with the police at Akatsi South, who later informed their colleagues at the nearby police depots.

The Akatsi South Police Commander said one of the suspects, Mercy Elewu, was later arrested at Abotoase after police there had information that they were keeping the little girl in their custody.

According to him, Ms. Elewu confessed to the police after her arrest that they took the girl to Abotoase without the knowledge of the father.

Superintendent Fiakpi said she later led the police to where her accomplice and the little girl were housed.

He told DAILY GUIDE the suspects were in the custody of the Akatsi South Police Command on suspicion of kidnapping, as investigation into the matter continues.
