Photos: Mahama in Abuja for Buhari’s inauguration

President John Dramani Mahama this morning, May 29, 2015 witnessed the swearing in of Nigeria’s President- elect, Muhammadu Buhari at the Eagle Square, Abuja.

Mr Buhari is the first opposition figure to win a presidential election in Nigeria since independence in 1960.

He defeated Goodluck Jonathan, who had been in office since 2010, by 15.4 million votes to 12.9 million.

Apart from President Mahama who was beautifully dressed in a Ghanaian smock,other African leaders and heads of states present to witness the occasion include current head of the African Union Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe, Niger’s Mahamadou Issoufou, Chad’s Idriss Deby and Equatorial Guinea’s Teodoro Obiang Nguema.

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, not forgetting Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn and US Secretary of State John Kerry were also at the inauguration.

Meanwhile, President Mahama is expected to be back in the country this evening.
