EC starts voter registration

The Electoral Commission has served notice it has commenced “a continuous registration of eligible voters” in accordance with Regulation 9 (1) of the Public Elections (Registration of Voters) Regulations 2012, (C.I 72).

The exercise is taking place at all district offices of the Commission throughout Ghana, a statement from deputy chairman in charge of operations Amadu Sulley said.

“This exercise is opened to Ghanaian citizens who have turned 18 years recently and those who are above 18 years but could not register in previous registration exercises.

“The public is reminded that applicants are required to provide one of the under listed documents as evidence of identification;

a. a Ghanaian Passport

b. a driver’s licence

c. National Identification Card, and

d. an old voter ID Card.

“The National Health Insurance Card will not be accepted as an identification document.

“Applicants who do not have any of the documents listed above will be required to execute a voter Registration Identification Guarantee Form at the point of registration. The form shall be witnessed by two persons who are already registered as voters. Applicants who do not have any of the aforementioned identification documents should get the two guarantors before they get to the district office,” it added.
