The Nkoranza Municipal Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr. Joseph Owusu has expressed concern about the rate of accidents involving motor-bikes in the municipality in recent times.
DSP Owusu, who was briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) about the situational report on road accidents in the Municipality between January and March this year, cautioned motor-riders to be extra-careful on the roads to save lives.
He reminded motorists and other road users that it was an offence to use their vehicles when under the influence of alcohol or any hard drug, stressing that, those illegal practices often times causes accidents.
DSP Owusu appealed to the leadership of the various transport unions in the Municipality to lead their member in road safety campaigns “to minimize the carnage on our roads”.
He said the Police recorded 13 cases of road accidents, involving 10 commercial and three private vehicles, as well as three motorbikes, within the period under review, adding that, two persons, a male and a female lost their lives while 35 persons sustained various degrees of injuries.
He commended the efforts of the Brong-Ahafo Regional Office of the Ghana Road Safety Commission for its periodic joint road safety education campaign with the Nkoranza Municipal Road Safety Committee in the area.
