Parents of Disabled Children Form Association

An Association of parents and families of people with disabilities has been inaugurated at Battor in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region. The six-member Executive has Mr.. Victor Bobodi, as its President. At the inaugural ceremony, Mr.. B.R. Gadotor, an Executive member of the Specialist Teachers Association of the Mentally Retarded and Physically-handicapped of Ghana, appealed to parents of children with disabilities to get actively involved in the training of their children. He said it is morally wrong for parents to dump their handicapped children on training institutions. What such parents are supposed to do, he said is to seek the advice of the appropriate authorities on how best they can contribute towards sustaining rehabilitation homes. The Principal of the Battor Special School for the Mentally-handicapped, Mr.. Martin Gozah, thanked the German aid agency, GTZ, for its assistance and hoped NGO’s would help the school in its expansion project.
