Concerned Members of 31st DWM condemn name change

A group calling itself Concerned Members of 31st December Women’s Movement (31st DWM) on Thursday condemned the change of the name of the Movement to Development Women’s Movement.

According to the group, per the Constitution of the Movement, only the National Congress has the power and authority to change or amend any portion of the Constitution singularly or collectively.

“As we are aware, it is on record that nobody has gone to congress to discuss or amend any part of the portion of the Constitution, The last congress of the Movement was held in 1985,” an official statement signed by Ms Mercy H. Agbenorwu, Spokesperson of the group said.

They also called on the National President to immediately organize a congress for election of New Executives and present an account of the Movement as enshrined in the constitution.

The statement said: “we are hereby protest and condemn this idea and declare this action totally null and void.”

“We demand an immediate withdrawal of the change of name of our organization, the 31st December Women’s Movement, as soon as possible to the laid down procedures as entrenched in our constitution.

“We the members of 31st December Women’s Movement still do maintain the tenets of the constitution for the NGO,” it added.
