The Ghana Armed Forces has warned private estate developers to stay off its lands.
The Military Tuesday embarked on a demolition exercise by pulling down some illegal structures on its lands in Greater Accra.
The developers had constructed walls to fence some acres of land on the Teshie-Burma camp boundary.
Acting Director of Public Affairs for the Ghana Armed Forces Lieutenant Colonel Aggrey-Quashie told Starr News encroachment on army lands will not be tolerated under any circumstances
“Where they are trying to put up some facilities are not good for those facilities because they are some sensitive installations in those areas.
“We want to regularise all those areas that fall within the security zones, some people have papers and land titles that they would want to show but for now, the security nature of the place is what we are worried about,” he explained.
The development comes in the wake of allegations by a group of some retired soldiers that the government is wantonly selling off military properties.
“We have convincing evidence that Ghana Armed Forces properties, including places of historic importance are being sold to private developers,” the group said. It listed among the properties being sold as: No.1 Roman Ridge Residence, Army Officers Mess, 1 Drake Avenue, Labadi Villa’s land, Teshie Camp and some Garrisons around the country.
These properties, according to the retired soldiers are being sold to private developers to be used for shopping malls, hotels, private hospitals, filling stations among others.
However, President Mahama has said the military high command is only entering into some agreements under a public-private-partnership to help improve its housing infrastructure.
