Assembly establishes fund to support needy students

The Asante-Akim North District Assembly has earmarked GH¢ 35,000 in support of the academic pursuit of brilliant but needy students in the area.

The money would come from its share of the District Assemblies Common Fund, Mr Daniel Osei, the District Chief Executive (DCE), said this was consistent with its deliberate efforts to promote education.

He told newsmen at Agogo that the goal was to create the opportunity for more children from poor homes, particularly girls, to live their dreams.

He said they were determined to ensure that nobody was denied education just for reasons of the economic situation of their parents.

Mr Osei said the assembly would not only provide for the school needs of the beneficiaries but go a step further to closely monitoring their performance.

He said the Assembly decided to prioritise education because it was strongly convinced that that was the way to achieve progress.

He appealed to parents and all other stakeholders to come together to develop education in the district for a better future of the children.
