Mr Cletus Avoka, Member of Parliament (MP) for Zebilla, said on Wednesday that government placed premium on education, and, therefore, would do everything possible to ensure that a conducive and congenial environment was created to promote effective teaching and learning.
Mr Avoka was speaking at the handing-over of a newly-constructed six classroom block at Sakuom, to house 445 pupils of the Sakuom Primary School.
The six-unit classroom block which has an ICT Centre, Office, Store and a Place of Convenience attached, was funded by GETFund, at the cost of GH¢ 325,161.98, and constructed by Benwincol, a local contractor.
The MP who received the keys to the school block from Mr Richard Osei Amanfu, Regional Architect, AESL and consultants to the project, reiterated his commitment to provide 2,000 pieces of furniture for distribution to schools in the district.
In addition, the MP assured the school of plans to equip the centre with computers, and also ensure that the school was placed under the School Feeding Programme (SFP).
Mr Avoka called on the community and teachers to take good care of the school, and urged the pupils not to relent in their studies.
Mr Simon Ayane Agbango, the Bawku West District Chief Executive, who in turn received the keys and handed them over to the District Director of Education, Mrs Patricia Ayiko, noted that Education was the biggest inheritance that could be passed on to generations.
Mr Agbango noted that the provision of infrastructure and social amenities were key, hence government’s role in the provision of the needed social amenities, such as schools, water and roads.
Mrs Ayiko was full of gratitude to the MP and the District Assembly for the prompt response to the needs of the school.
The District Director of Education also appealed to the Assembly to renovate the old block used by the Junior High School.
