E.P. Church Presbyters must promote discipline

Presbyters of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church must enforce discipline and orderliness in the congregations of the Church.

‘‘Preside over us…,’’ the Right Reverend Seth Senyo Agidi, the Moderator of the Church, gave the advice when he inducted the newly national Executives of the Presbyters’ Union into office at Anfoega at the weekend.

‘‘Make sure our faith is practised as Presbyterians, if God wants anything he wants the best,’’ he told the Presbyters.

Rt. Rev Agidi urged the presbyters to work closely with other church agents to ensure that church programmes, including Sunday church services, should follow accepted order with every actor performing his or her roles professionally.

Delivering a sermon on the theme, “Christ Our Example,” Rt. Rev. Agidi exhorted the presbyters to count themselves last and others first as Jesus Christ did.

‘‘You are asked to wash the feet of others, rather than being self-serving,” he said.

Mr. Francis Ganyaglo, Deputy Volta Regional Minister, advised the new leaders of the Presbyters’ Union to be team players as that ‘‘reinforced accountability’’.

He said, ‘‘One of the problems in the Church is its failure to function as a team, which is completely contrary to scripture…”.

Mr Ganyaglo said for all the powers he wielded, Jesus Christ, still enlisted a team of men – a small band of disciples.

He asked for prayers for the Government as it confronted the challenges of the country.

Mr Solomon Kwesi Atadze, the new President of the Presbyters Union, pledged that the team would work relentlessly to uphold the image of the Church and Union.

He said the executive would establish a secretariat for the Union in Ho and set up a strong investment policy to strengthen the financial base of the Union.

Mr Atadze said the executive would also keep close contact with congregation through periodic visits and educate them on “other things”.
