A retired lecturer of the Presbyterian University College (PUC), Dr Kwaku Adu-Osafo, has dragged the institution before the Nkawkaw High Court for non- payment of his nine month salary, totaling GH¢ 11,304.00, while lecturing at the college.
The lecturer is demanding an interest on the said amount at current bank rate from August 31, 2011.
When the case was called, the defendant failed to appear before the court and a cost of GH¢ 300.00 was awarded against the University.
The case was therefore adjourned to 13th March, 2015 for hearing by the court presided over by Justice Nathaniel Osam.
According to Dr Adu-Osafo, the PUC engaged him as a lecturer from 1st December 2004 to 30th November 2010.
He said later the University and the Church Development Service of Germany (EED) established a postharvest outreach management centre at Kwasi Fante, a village in the Kwahu Afram Plains South District to manage postharvest losses among farmers in that area.
He said the University appointed him as Development Advisor/Director of the outreach centre where the EED and the PUC took care of his salary and his monthly supplement.
Dr Adu-Osafo said due to the management of the PUC assurance of contract extension, he remained at post at the centre and supervised the work of regular students’ work until he received a letter from the Registrar of the University on 12th May 2011 abrogating his service with the University effective 5th January 2011.
He said he felt cheated by the University as they failed to pay for the services he rendered for the period that he was engaged by the University and all letters written to the University authority with copies to the Clerk of the General Assembly and the Kwahu Presbytery Chairperson of the PCG yielded no result.
