UG night market collapsed by rainstorm: One woman seriously injured

The night market at the University of Ghana, Legon has collapsed.

The ceiling of the market, which hosts food sellers and customers – mostly students of the University – caved in and dragged portions of the walls down during a short rainstorm Saturday evening.

An eyewitness told StarrFMonline.com that the sellers under the sheds of the market fled to safety, but one woman was trapped under the collapsed structure and sustained scathing cuts on parts of her body.

She bled profusely and had to be rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Gideon, the eyewitness, who saw the disaster said he first heard a “big bang”.

He said the ceilings of the sheds were blown off by strong winds while the walls fell apart. The rains also destroyed the food being sold by the market women.
