Bugri Naabu slams gov’t for neglecting Konkombas

Mr Daniel Bugri Naabu, Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized the NDC government for allegedly neglecting Konkombas, by not appointing any as a cabinet minister to spearhead development of the area.

He said,“It is noticeable that the current government has no value for Konkombas. The Konkombas have no less than seven members in Parliament, and the NDC government has not appreciated this by appointing some of them to cabinet positions, to help spearhead development for the area”.

Mr Naabu expressed the concern in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Tamale on Tuesday, after he joined the chiefs and people of Kpassa in the Nkwanta North District of the Volta Region, to celebrate their Annual Yam Festival, aimed at showcasing the tourism, culture and tradition of the people.

Mr Naabu who is also President of the Konkomba Development Association (KODA), said it was important for the government to appoint a cabinet minister from Konkomba land, who would participate in functions and convey the people’s concerns to cabinet for discussion and possible assistance.

He said the NPP had Konkombas at heart, and had therefore, appointed a Konkomba as a deputy minority leader in Parliament, and appealed to the people to vote for the NPP in 2016 to ensure that they were not sidelined in terms of appointments.

Mr Naabu commended the chiefs and people for maintaining peace in the area, saying, “The destiny of this area lies in your hands and we must individually and collectively work for the progress of the area,” stressing the importance of unity and togetherness.

He said the area witnessed massive developmental projects under the leadership of the erstwhile NPP administration, and gave the assurance that if the party recaptured power in 2016, it would continue to offer the people good governance to reduce poverty and illiteracy.

He appealed to the youth take the destiny of their future into their own hands, by making judicious use of the vast lands, and cultivate more yam and grains to feed the nation.
