The Executive Director of the Ghana Integrity Initiative, (GII), has welcomed the decision by the Chief Justice that a legitimate case has been established against the Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, Lauretta Lamptey.
Georgina Theodora Wood, in a response to a petition by Richard Nyamah for the CHRAJ Boss to be removed, concluded that Lauretta Lamptey misconducted herself and breached public trust.
Lamptey is reported to have spent over $200, 000 to pay her rent at the plush AU Village in Accra while her official residence was being renovated at a cost of Ghc180,000.
Since August this year, after her AU rent ran out, Lamptey has been staying at a plush hotel in Accra at the cost of $450 a day.
Nsawam Adoagyir MP Frank Annor Dompreh and Nyamah filed separate petitions to the presidency for a probe into Lamptey’s conduct.
Speaking on Morning Starr Thursday with host Kafui Dey on Starr 103.5FM, Vitus Azeem noted that the conduct of the CHRAJ Boss was appalling and shameful.
“That is the right approach and that is what most Ghanaians were expecting because a lot of independent institutions tend to take advantage of that independence and do things that do not meet the expectations of the citizens of this country.
“I think it is a welcome development and we wait to see…it is unprecedented but it has come as a result of activities and behaviours that were appalling,” Azeem said.
Mr. Azeem added that the action taken by the Chief Justice clearly shows that there are systems in place that can fight corruption in the country.
