Krachi Chief seeks compensation from VRA

Togbe Dodzi II, Chief of the Ewe Community at Ado-Nkwanta in the Krachi area, is seeking compensation from the Volta River Authority (VRA) over a land it acquired for a resettlement project.

Appearing before the Judgement Debt Commission on Tuesday, Togbe Dodzii II, said the VRA acquired its family land to resettle the people who were affected by flood, as a result of the construction of the Akosombo Dam.

He said the family, therefore, sought the help of Nana Dwamena Boateng II, Chief of Ado-Nkwanta, to get its compensation from the VRA, but he died while pursuing for the compensation.

He told the Commission that even though Nana Asare Baah II, Chief of Worawora, claimed that the land in question belonged to his family, he later wrote to the Lands Commission stating that the issue regarding the ownership of the land had been resolved and that the Togbe Dodzi Family were the rightful owners.

Togbe Dodzi said all attempts made by his family to receive its share of the compensation from VRA had proven futile.

He, therefore, appealed to the Commission to help the family receive its share of the compensation.
