There seems to be apathy with the strike action declared by eight labour unions last Tuesday.
The unions including all three for teachers as well as the major health sector unions are protesting government’s handling of Tier 2 of the new pension scheme.
But rounds made by TV3’s reporters on Wednesday, October 22 show that while some workers have heeded to the strike, others are going about their normal duties, showing no signs of an industrial action.
TV3’s Odelia Ofori reported on Midday Live on Wednesday that classroom activities at Labone and St Thomas Aquinas Senior High schools are ongoing normally.
Nothing shows that there is a strike action, our reporter said.
But TV3’s William Evans Nkum reported from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) that doctors have withdrawn out-patient services and are only treating emergency cases.
Our labour correspondent Daniel Opoku also reported members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association (CLOGSAG) have laid down their tools per Tuesday’s declaration.
Government on Tuesday expressed dissatisfaction with the strike action, accusing the labour unions of acting in bad faith.
The labour unions concerned have also resolved not to back down as they claim government had turned deaf ears to their threats over the second-tier pension scheme.
