Rubber tapper thief jailed 36 months

A Tarkwa Circuit Court on Thursday sentenced a 36- year-old raw rubber tapper, Ebo Justice, to 36 months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing raw rubber valued 2,500 Ghana cedis which he plead guilty to.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah told the court presided by Mr. Justice Obeng Asante that the complainant, Nana Kwame Asiedu, is a farmer at Wassa Simpa in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality and the accused lived in the same vicinity.

Chief Inspector Tawiah said on September 15 he had a phone call from the caretaker of his farm that one of the workers had stolen rubber and wanted to sell it to one Uncle Appiah.

She said Uncle Appiah and Ebo met on the farm of the complainant and the accused took him to the place where he had hidden his goods and offered to sell the rubber to him for 2,500 Ghana Cedis.

Chief Inspector Tawiah said Uncle Appiah told the convict to accompany him to his car for the money where Nana Aseidu and his brother were waiting.

She said Ebo was handed over to the complainant and his brothers who took him to the police station.
