President John Mahama is urging universities in the country to focus on equipping students with educational skills that will be useful to industries in the country and reduce the attention on MBA programs.
According to the president, there appears to be a mismatch between the skills needed by the industrial sector and those being churn out by the tertiary institutions.
“…But what kind of education do we need? we must produce people with the skills set business wants, not the MBAs, lots of marketers etc.
The biggest investment we can make in our people for good employment and decent work is education” Mr Mahama wrote on his official twitter handle @JDMahama on Tuesday, September 23.
He added: “We’ve a mismatch between jobs & education, changing from a state control to private sector-led and data on available jobs”.
President Mahama is currently in the US participating in the 69th UN General Assembly.
